your gift can change how we help people

Imagine calling for help and getting a response quickly. Imagine being treated with dignity and respect, when you are in need. These are the standards of the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul, across our Diocese.

Your gift can help us make this a reality in more places across our Diocese. Your gift can change the way people in need are helped.

Friends of the poor walk 2025

Thank you for joiniing us!

At the 9th Annual SVDP Friends of the Poor Walk, we had nearly 170 walkers join us, who helped raise over $45,000 to help our local Richmond Conferences!

Friends from our local SVDP Conferences and community came together to walk 2-3 times around the St. Michael Catholic Church campus, followed by a delicious lunch donated by Silver Diner, and then we heard an update on the current work and future hopes of SVDP Richmond!

SERVING NEIGHBORS IN NEED ACROSS VIRGINIA

As Vincentians, we are called to help all those in need. Indeed, no act of charity is foreign to us. We serve all regardless of faith.

Typical services provided include:

  • rent and mortgage assistance
  • utility assistance
  • food assistance
  • furniture assistance

Actual assistance provided and rent definitions may differ based on available resources in a geographical area. What never changes is the way Vincentians serve those who ask for help.

Volunteers Needed!

SVDP Richmond is in need of volunteers, to help with our Motel to Home Program.

What is it?

Often, our neighbors in need will find shelter in an extended stay motel. They are working and can afford the rent, but they are unable to save for a deposit for a true home of their own. This program helps with a deposit and other move in costs while providing in depth case management for 1 year to help those we serve.

Get Involved

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, to meet with Motel to Home applicants, including monthly follow-up meetings, please reach out to us. Click the photo to get involved!
